Alexander Van der Zee Daniella Van der Zee Anne Van der Zee

Lose One, Gain Two

Daniella and Alexander flew into The States with a quick stop at
her corresponding bank, where she picked up Anne's cashier's check.

On their way to Davis Library of St. John's University, the following
conversation took place....

Daniella: Thanks for escorting me to pick up this piece, Alexander. It would have been
such a hassle using a commercial airline!

Alexander: This way is best. Remember, our grandfather requested our presence, he said
it is most urgent. It's about our parents. On our way back, we will stop to see him for
the holidays.

Daniella: I can barely remember them! I now busy myself looking for this artifact, when
memory of them come to me! Imagine, as we were told, they were two doctors doing so well
- at the top of their form - then NOTHING! GONE! Rachel has been like a sister to me. I
don't know what I would have done without her support!

Alexander: Joos was more of an older brother to me than an uncle. Let us pick up this piece
and return to Europe. You said her name was Anne van der Zee?

Daniella: Yes! Another Van der Zee! I don't know where she's from, we have only had email
correspondence - I don't know what she sounds like. Let us make it a very quick exchange
and head back. Alexander, I need to make another quick stop in Manhattan before we go.

Alexander: That shouldn't be a problem. I'll drop by the diamond district while you take
care of your business affairs. Daniella, we may have to stay a day or two in New York.
I don't know yet.

Daniella: An extra two days in New York City?! That is no problem! That will give me time
to do a little extra Christmas shopping. Look Alexander - Davis Library - we are here.
Let us finish this business quickly.

Anne's last quick email to Daniella told her she was going to secure
a private study room at the library, she should inquire about it at
the desk. She will leave word with them.

So excited was Anne that morning, she skipped breakfast. She was busy
looking at the case, when she suddenly looked up to see two well dressed
people staring at her, through the glass in shock! These two not only
looked, but they felt like her siblings.

Daniella: Anne? Anne Van der Zee? Hi, I am Daniella Van der Zee and this is my brother, Alexander!

Alexander: Hello!

Anne: How do you do! Welcome to St. John's! I'm hope you found this place without much trouble!

Daniella: None at all! I don't know how to say this Anne, you are a Van der Zee, no? Are you American?

Anne: Actually no. I have lived in many places growing up, but my parents now live in Turkey.
I plan to go back there for the holidays. Would you like to see the piece you purchased?

Daniella: Yes please! Anne, please read this "Transfer of Ownership", prepared by my
attorney, although it is only a page long, we will have to get it notarized to make this
sale official. Don't worry, there is a notary downstairs. Is this the piece? Beautiful!

Alexander: Magnificent find, Daniella! You have a good eye!

Anne: Here is a picture of me and my parents. I took it before I left for the school year.

Once Daniella saw the picture, she broke
down and started to cry uncontrollably.....

Daniella: I knew it.... I knew it.... I felt it all my life Alexander, they're alive!

Alexander: Anne, I think you already know what's going on. We are Van der Zees too. I think
we maybe related. We were told our parents died while we were still young. please excuse
Daniella. These two people in this picture are our parents!

Anne: They are very much alive Alexander. We moved to Turkey years back after bouncing around
the globe for awhile. I felt they were hiding from someone. I am sorry for being so honest,
but I knew it once I saw the picture Daniella sent via email; that she was my sister. That's
why I brought that picture to gauge her reaction. I just didn't know I had an older brother too!

Daniella: Let's take this one step at a time, Anne! Are you hungry? Let us go out for lunch,
I know a very good restaurant in downtown Manhattan. Alexander, let's leave for Europe at a
later date - we just discovered we have a baby sister!

Anne: Sure sis, let's go out to eat! I hope your limo has a mini bar. I just finished my exams
yesterday, now I find out I have a sister and a brother.... What a Christmas this is
going to be!

The three have a wonderful champagne lunch. Daniella and Anne spent
the rest of the day shopping and 'catching up'. They all decided to
keep this meeting a secret from their parents and now Anne's Grand pa!
They dropped Anne at her apartment full of wonder at how a simple
ornament has brought them together again.

Alexander informed her, she could fly back to Europe with them - free!
She should be ready to leave in two to three days time.

7:30 AM, the next morning, Daniella woke Anne up. Daniella was so
excited, she couldn't control herself! Anne! Anne! These numbers at
the bottom of this chest are are not just "Numbers & Letters". It's
a bank account number! I asked my banker to do some checking
for me. I hope you don't mind picking up some extra clothes. This
bank account is in a certain bank somewhere in
La Gruyere, Switzerland!

Don't forget to bring your birth certificate, because
of these new developments, Alexander said we should
be ready to leave for Europe tonight!
