Gwyneth Paltrow
as Adelise Calanthe (The Patient) |
In this business, you rarely get a patient that tries to use
"reverse psychology" on a psychiatrist, by using the logic
of Captain Yossarian.
Well ...
Something Happened.
Ms. Harrietta Isabeau, licensed psychiatrist,
sat down and started to pay attention.
With no more patients to see,
she decided to "suspend all disbelief";
the three difficult patients earlier,
has put her in a very strange mood.
For the next fifteen minutes, Adelise Calanthe,
explained to Ms. Isabeau: how, at the age of 16,
she, Ms. Isabeau, gave up a summer vacation
in order to make a study of Jung, Freud, and Nietzsche.
(While doing this, Ms. Calanthe kept checking her watch.)
Also, her Critique of "Traumnovelle" was the perfect
interpretation of the recent Kubrick film, many years later.
No one in the world could know this,
but Ms. Isabeau, herself.
The only words Ms. Isabeau could muster was,
"You are 100% well, go home."
Ms. Calanthe didn't "go home" and her persistence paid off.
Adelise Calanthe, by some miracle, convinced Ms. Isabeau,
that she could help her prevent a future event somewhere in Turkey.
They had to be at a certain hotel in Ankara, at a certain time.
The name of the person, who was to be helped was, "Odelia".
Before Ms. Isabeau could call for "help", Ms. Calanthe,
gave her a cell phone and said, "Trust me, call this number."
She should say these words exactly as she wrote it.
The words were: "Sorry, did a Daniella Van der Zee, just call?"
(She dialed the number of two sisters in Skelleftehamn, Sweden.)
The airy voice on the other line, gently said no,
she didn't know such a person and hung up.
Ms. Isabeau said, "What now? This is....crazy."
Adelise Calanthe, told her, wait approximately 17 minutes
and call back and ask the same question.
What the hell........
She dialed again, the pause on the
other line was so electric, it told Ms. Isabeau to keep
suspending her disbelief until she comes back from Turkey.
